FAO Internship Program overview

The Internship Program is a learning opportunity designed to attract talented young men and women who have strong incentives to share their new perspectives, innovative ideas and the latest research experience in the areas in which FAO works.

Internship Program Information

The internship program provides selected students who are enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate education program or who have recently graduated, the opportunity to supplement their academic knowledge with work experience in a job post to the work of the Food Agricultural Organization. It will enable them to gain a better understanding of how the organization and its programs operate. At the same time, this program provides the organization with the assistance of competent individuals specialized in areas related to the strategic objectives of the organization and the sustainable development goals of the United Nations. 


Eligibility criteria to apply:

1- Nationality:

Candidates must be nationals of FAO Member States

2- Academic achievement:

Candidates must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate education program at an accredited educational institution at the time of application or be a recent graduate. Candidates pursuing their studies in a country where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and postgraduate levels must have completed at least three years of full-time studies in order to complete a certain level.

3- Languages:

The candidates who want apply must have a working knowledge and skills of at least one of the official languages of the organization (English, French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese or Russian). Knowledge of a second official language of the Organization would be an added advantage.

4- Age:

Candidates should be between 21-30 years old at the start of the internship (ie the training should start before the candidate reaches the age of 31).

5- Skills:

Candidates should be able to adapt to an international, multicultural environment, have good communication skills and be proficient in the use of basic computer software.

6- Residence/entry visa:

Candidates should have valid residency or legal immigrant status in the country of assignment prior to beginning the internship.

7- Family Relationships:

Candidates whose family member (ie brother, sister, mother or father) works for the organization under any type of contractual arrangement are not eligible to participate in the internship program.

* FAO has set the duration of the internship between 3 and 11 months.
