La Giraudiere is a non-profit organization based in Southwest France that seeks to educate and train young people to enter the labor market. It also provides voluntary work in the field of education, environment, landscapes and intercultural exchange between people of different nationalities.
How can I travel to France by volunteering?
You can travel to France by volunteering if you are involved with this organization (La Giraudiere)
To engage in this organization, you must take 3 easy, simple steps without complications or "head break".
1_ Application for Volunteering :
As an initial step, you should send a message to the organization's e-mail informing them that you are interested in volunteering abroad.
When you send this e-mail, you will receive an answer in which they welcome you and provide you with other information and application form to register below.
We note that enrollment is available for all ages from 18 to 84 years.
It is also not necessary for a volunteer to have a degree or a high level of education.
2_ To recognize the agreement you will conclude with the organization:

Participation certificate
Transportation and Transfers: All arrival and departures transportation to and from Chalais station, as well as trips to Chalais are included. Those requiring transfers for weekend excursions also included.
Accommodation: You will have your own bedroom in one of the apartments at La Giraudiere, unless you indicate that you wished to share. Every effort is made to ensure that the accommodation is separate so that males and females are in different apartments. Each apartment has a shower and wash room independent from the other apartments. The apartments are clean, bright, comfortable and well equipped.
Linens & Towels: Once a week the bed linens are changed. Towels and sheets are provided.
Meals: All meals are included for the days that you are at La Giraudiere.
These consist of-
Breakfast: Cereals, fruit, toast, yoghurt, coffee, tea and juice.
Lunch: Alfresco - salads, meats, cheese, pizza, pasta and quiche (but can vary).
Dinner: Monday to Friday, everyone takes a turn to provide variety.- During a 3 week stay you may have to cook 2 or 3 times, but don't worry, it's always a joint effort with plenty of help being provided! The weekends are yours to do as you wish. Some volunteers may take off for the weekend, or some may try the local restaurants.
Group Excursions: Once every 3 weeks a group excursion is arranged and provided, therefore during your stay you will benefit from at least one group excursion.
Long weekends: Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday are your days off and ideal for exploring the region! Transfers to and from Chalais train station are included. Remember to budget for those weekends exploring.

French, or English Lessons: Every Friday morning French lessons are provided by our French and English speaking teachers. Normally these lessons are with the whole group and may encompass either something that you are working on in the project or conversational skills needed to communicate with the local people - all levels are catered for.
Work materials and supplies: All work materials are provided.
Internet and phone reception: There is free internet access for laptops, tablets and other devices. You may also use the telephone to receive calls from home but please keep calls to a minimum as broadband in Brossac is not always free.
Advice and training: If there is something in particular that you would like to learn during your stay and feel that we could advise or train you then please ask.
Volunteers' Certificate: At the end of your stay you will receive a volunteers' certificate and a reference letter of participation - essential for your CV or Resumé.
Weekly Market Trip: Every Monday morning there is a traditional French market at Chalais. Transport to and from the market is included.
Christmas Programs - Please note for the Christmas program we may not have French teachers available because of the holiday period and some of the weekly events will not be available but these will be replaced by additional outings.
VOLUNTEERS APPLICATION FORM
If your application is accepted you will receive an email from us confirming that a place has been reserved for you and indicating the dates and your expected arrival date and place. With this confirmation you will also receive a link so that you can reserve your spot by paying a reservation deposit. All deposits are handled via the secure payment service of PAYPAL.
When you have paid your deposit PayPal will issue you a receipt but it is wise to email us to let us know you have paid. Once your payment is received, your place is changed from "allocated" to "reserved" and you can start to make your travel plans, knowing your place at La Giraudiere is confirmed.
Remember that your allocated place is up for grabs until your reservation deposit is paid, so if you foresee a delay then let us know.
IMPORTANT -: DO NOT MAKE TRAVEL PLANS UNTIL YOU HAVE PAID YOUR DEPOSIT AND YOUR RESERVATION IS CONFIRMED.
Make sure you have checked the volunteering fees and that you understand what is included
Once you have completed your travel plans send us an email to confirm your arrival date and time so that we can meet you in Chalais.
Visa Applications: Depending on where your are based or travelling from you may need a visa to visit France, even as a volunteer, Once your deposit is paid you will receive a receipt via paypal and we will send you a signed letter confirming that you have reserved accommodation. There is a 50€ charge for this letter which is not refundable if your visa application fails.

How To Apply
Step 1: E-mail us at volunteer@lagiraudiere.com to tell us that you are interested in our volunteer program and we will reply with up to-date information and links to help you.
Step 2: Read the information provided and our website inluding the volunteer's agreement and code of conduct.
Step 3: Complete the Volunteers Application Form and click "submit."
Processing Time: Depending on the number of applications it can take between 2 -14 days.
Acceptance: We try to accommodate as many volunteers as possible but please keep in mind that the group will consist of a mixture of ages and nationalities. So please do not be disappointed if you do not get a place and remember that you can always re-apply, change dates or even reserve for the following year. If we cannot accommodate you we will contact you with alternative dates to see if they suit you.
