Youngstock Manager- Weymouth-Dorset-SASCweb1896, Dorset

Job Summary
We are looking for a full-time youngstock manager who would be responsible for calf and youngstock rearing on our client’s very successful dairy farming operation, near Weymouth.

Job Skills
The role will be focused on rearing approximately 140 heifers a year from birth to calving on a 420 autumn calving dairy.  You will also be responsible for rearing all the beef calves in-house as well as 200 beef x calves from a spring calving dairy within the same business.

Great communication, attention to detail and experience are a prerequisite of this position, working within a team of seven.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly experienced and skilled feedlot manager to head up the team on a large scale beef feedlot unit in The Sudan.

Job Skills
The role would entail all aspects of feedlot management in a hot climate. You will have overall responsibility for the performance of the herd, management of the staff, liaising with vets, consultants, nutritionists and the cropping manager. You will report to the owners and their representatives on a weekly basis and are ultimately charged with the task of producing quality meat to global standards, consistent supply and DLWG, all within a profitable business structure. You will have a practical, hands-on style, knowing that to truly manage a herd, you must be in and amongst that herd. You will also be responsible for the team on farm and the successful candidate will have both excellent stockmanship skills coupled with excellent people management skills. 
You will have experience in a similar role, preferably outside of the EU or US and within a developing country - Africa/The Arab States would be a bonus. You will certainly have an understanding of the challenges of beef production in a hot climate, disease control and challenges in such an environment and managing local people - you will be able to train, motivate and lead by example.
