Greater weight will be given to the time spent in Canada at the undergraduate level (post-secondary) in the point-based Express Entry system. This means that more international students will be encouraged to apply for permanent residence with their education, language, and work experience in Canada. The change is expected to increase the number of international students with permanent residence in Canada by about 10% over the next few years.
According to the new amendments, the Express Entry system will focus less on a job offer within Canada's permanent residence papers, which will help international students who have received job offers work for at least one year to apply for residency. Prior to the amendments, the person applying for permanent residence had to have a permanent position in Canada, and it is therefore highly hoped that these amendments would increase the chances of permanent students obtaining permanent residence in Canada.
