Job Description We are looking for an experienced Dairy Farm Manager to run our 750-800 cow dairy operation at Limestone Downs. This is a unique opportunity to operate within a team comprising a dairy platform, dairy support block and an 1800 Ha sheep and beef station.
Limestone Downs is owned by the C. Alma Baker Trust and is a large sheep, beef and dairy property situated south of Port Waikato
Limestone Downs is well-regarded within the agricultural research and development community as it fulfils the Charitable Trust’s main objective, “in the furtherance of the science of agriculture”.
The goal of the business is to deliver profits back into the industry. This is achieved by excellence in operational performance across the sheep, beef and dairy units and then the distribution of funds to research projects, awards and postgraduate scholarships.
As Dairy Farm Manager you will be responsible for the physical and financial performance of the dairy unit. This role includes developing and implementing farm plans to ensure the success and optimisation of farm performance. The farm has very good infrastructure and has potential to increase production and profit.
Key requirements of this job include:
- Exceptional pasture management, and understanding of feed requirements
- Strong knowledge around animal health
- Excellent team leader skills, and the willingness and ability to train less experienced staff; willingness to work with a multi-cultural team
- Strong communication skills
- Excellent record keeping skills
- Quiet with stock
- Effective time management and prioritisation of key jobs
- As dairy farm manager you will be required to work with the sheep and beef manager to optimise production and profitability across the entire farming operation
You must be living in New Zealand, and eligible to work in New Zealand to apply for this job.
Accommodation 5 year old large 4 bedroom brick home. Local schools are Waikaretu, Te Kohanga , Onewhero Area School, and Tuakau. Local service centres are Tuakau (45 minutes) and Pukekohe (55 minutes). There is a small general store 15 minutes away at Port Waikato. There is beach access on the farm, as well as bush.

This 340ha System 3 dairy farm peak milks 780 cows through a 5 year old fully automated 60 bail rotary. Flat to gentle rolling terrain, set against west coast beaches, a real hunters/fishers paradise. Clay, sand and peat soils. Can get very wet through winter/spring, and dry during summer, so effective pasture management is critical to this role. 500 cow feed pad. The successful candidate will have the support of both the Limestone Downs General Manager and a local Farm Consultant.
