New Visa for foreigners wishing to residence in Russia

The Russian government has issued a new type of visa for foreigners (Visa), a visa for temporary residence permit on the territory of the Russian Federation.

The new visas will be granted once only to foreign nationals for 4 months by consular institutions and diplomatic offices if the foreign citizen obtains approval from the Russian Interior Ministry to grant him a temporary residence permit in the country.

The amendments were introduced in accordance with the federal law of June 7, which includes new rules for foreign citizens who obtained temporary residence permits in Russia.

The e-Visa will be issued free of charge to every foreign national who applies through the official website from here, accompanied by digital and without the need for other documents.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the free electronic visa will be valid for 30 days, and foreign nationals will be able to stay for an additional 8 days at most in Russian territory.

This visa allows entry and exit from Russia only through the official crossing points located in the economic zone of the free port of Vladivostok, through the autonomous regions of Primori, Kamchatka, Khabarovsk, Sakhalin and Chukotka.

Pending the opening of special points to enter the electronic visa in various regions of the Russian Federation, as in the port of Vladivostok free, foreign citizens who receive the "Visa" to reside and move within the territory of Promory only.

The Russian government signed on April 17 a decree allowing citizens of 18 countries, including nine Arab countries, to travel to the Russian Far East, and exempt from the procedures for obtaining the Russian traditional visa.
Russian Prime Minister Medvedev also said he had agreed to a list of countries whose citizens, especially businessmen and tourists, would enjoy preferential treatment, where they could enter Russia without visas.

Medvedev stressed that the countries were chosen on the basis of reciprocity, not because they are close or distant.
