It will now be easier to access Canadian citizenship for permanent residents, following an amendment to the immigration act, which will enter into force soon, announced this Wednesday the Canadian government.
The changes that came into force on 11 October include a reduction in mandatory time for the Canadian territory to apply for citizenship as well as the possibility for temporary residents such as international students to record time for attendance.
The current law requires permanent residents to be present in the territory four years after the application for a passport, but the new rules reduce this obligation to three consecutive years, for which the permanent resident will also have to complete a declaration. Tax.

Temporary residents who wish to obtain permanent residence and citizenship will be able to account for up to one year of their presence in the territory, enabling them to become Canadian in two years instead of three.

Part of the new law had entered into force in June, including repealing the possibility of revoking Canadian citizenship of a bi-National "if that person was found guilty of treason, espionage or terrorism", a provision adopted under the previous Conservative government.
